Still River Cafe

For my Mom and my Annual Girls Christmas Dinner, we went to the Still River Cafe. I've blogged about the restaurant before here, but it is worth saying again how wonderful it is. They have a huge garden outside where the vegetables are harvested and they only use local purveyors for dairy and meat.

My Mom and I opted for the 10-course tasting meal and were overwhelmed with the beautiful, creative food. This is not your basic fare. Here are two of the highlights:

I misplaced the menu, so I cannot quite remember the details, but here is a goat cheese custard, which a light goat cheese foam topped with American Paddlefish caviar.

This course was full of special morsels. In the center of the plate, the yellow yolk on top of the minced purple beet is not an egg. It is pureed golden beet in a casing, that when popped, oozes just like an soft-cooked egg. Extraordinary. And the carrots to the right are done sous-vide. A term I had only heard on Top Chef! Other items were crispy kale and pickled pears. So adventurous!

And here are two rosey-cheeked, full-bellied, satisfied ladies!

Thankgiving Part 2

Best part about divorced parents is TWO Thanksgiving dinners. I joined my Mom and the Batts for another turkey feast with an Asian twist!

Sweet and mashed potatoes. Awesome.

Here's my Mom and her best friend, Kah. Kah's daughter, Michelle, bakes the best deserts -- this year she was an overachiever with two pies -- pumpkin AND pecan.

Thanksgiving Part 1

I love everything about Thanksgiving. There is no end to my raving about the coolest holiday of the year. Thanks pilgrims and Native Americans!

Best turkey carver in the world below. The slices were so thin you could almost see through them. And that way, no one would feel like a pig for getting four, five or six portions!

Terry's homemade cranberry sauce, brussel sprouts, all the fixings. Joy.

As you can see from past entries, I'll never win any photography awards. My goal when taking pictures is to make sure the subject is framed in the center with decent lighting. I'm a point and click girl. Well yesterday I took my best work yet. It has everything to do with Devil's Hopyard being so beautiful on the cusp of winter.

There's Alexis contemplating crossing the waterfall. Thank goodness she chose wisely not to!

Look at Alexis climbing the tree!

Alexis made me so nervous that I had to look away and took this nice, grounding shot.

Can you find the AS and LD?

Brooklyn Brunch

Exceptional brunch at the Brooklyn hot spot, Flatbush Farm and Bar. I had a burger with a poached egg on top. Not my usual morning fare, but this one was genius. Soft bun, fresh meat, juicy yolk and the piece de resistance, crispy, thick cut bacon.

Out and About in London

After realizing that the hotel restaurant was a big bag of wank, Arnold, Stephen and I headed out to find a brill noshery. As we genned up on the neighborhood, we decided to spend some dosh on a few nang pieces at the local shoppes. We knew to skip the naff shops where all the mingers and cabbages shopped and gandered up to this lovely street. All in all, a docking good day!

Whooping it up with Carol

I don't mind traveling for work -- it's fun to get out of the office and have a change of scenery. But I love it best when traveling for work to London. Any chance I can to see Carol and Rakhi and their families, I will take. On my most recent visit, Carol had her first night out since having baby Allegra. Thanks for babysitting Emmet!

Here is Pierce with Carol giving him one last squeeze before hitting Club Eclipse. Pierce looks just like his handsome Daddy.

We ran into Carol's friends during our merrymaking.

Piper and Il Sole rustic menu

Before have a big dinner at Il Sole, we stopped by Poppie and Amos's place to visit with baby-with-the mostest Piper. She loves being bounced by Auntie Adeeb on the ball.

And maybe a little startled by Uncle Andrew's goofiness! Look at those spectacular eyes and that kissable nose. Piper is so cute.

Here at Il Sole, Adeeb and Aaron show us their scissoring technique.

Happy faces after eggplant parmesan, burrata with heirloom tomatoes, buttered spaghetti with meatballs and many other comforting delicacies off the Sunday Rustic Menu.

Motherhood has been good to Poppie. She's glowing -- shiny hair, vibrant skin and thin already! Would you expect any differently from star-like Poppie? MILF.

Cahn's Cocktail Party

Welcome to your new home Kim and Andrew! They kicked it off with a bash of a house warming last night. With most of the renovations finished, the place was like a palace of colorful modern decor.

Early Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is the greatest holiday of the year and although the best part is getting together with family, the meal tickles my soul to no end. With three weeks to go, I couldn't wait any longer. My craving had to be filled by an early version of the dinner so I bought two roast chickens, threw them on a roasting pan and stuck them in the oven for the *illusion* of doing them myself, and invited friends over. Thanks for carving, Jordan.

Here's Richard serving up some brussel sprouts, butternut squash, stuffing, gravy and salad. If you like squash, the link above will bring you to a spectacular recipe -- that dish was a huge hit that night and since! And why isn't stuffing served more often at restaurants? Almost everyone loves it, yet typically we only get it one time a year?!

Gorgeous irises.

Outside dining even in November!

Beautiful Olanna.
This was so fun that I think a Thanksgiving meal should be the fourth Thursday of EVERY month!!
